Tropical Storm Hannah
Sept. 5&6, 2008
Fortunately for Outer Banks residents, Tropical Storm Hannah struck south and moved inland without causing any damage - while still bringing us "EPIC CONDITIONS!" After pumping beautiful waves our way for a whole week, the wind finally delivered on Friday as the storm moved our way. The Cove went off on Friday, producing long, clean lines for both kiters and windsurfers to destroy. Mark and Stuart hit it early, only to find Brad Doore pumping up his Rebel 10m. The wind was relatively light at first and spotty throughout the day, but everybody was getting at least five turns on most waves; some waves even lined up to get ten turns on 500yd rides. Brian and Chris got out there just as the first line of rain came through, but they still managed to catch some beautiful waves and show off how good the Rebel is at turning fast and allowing you to get in the critical section. Conditions were offshore in the morning, with easily-head high set waves. As the wind lightened up but moved to a more favorable direction the waves returned and pumped well over head high. Saturday brought some gnarly winds, with gusts pushing 50mph! Mark was killing it on his 3.4 and his JP 66L wave board and many other riders were seen hucking themselves with forwards and backloop attempts in the sound at the Canadian Hole. Brian grabbed a session in the sound as well near Jockey's Ridge State Park, unrolling his rarely used 3.7 for the first time since May. Stop into the store for all the gory details!
